Located in Brussels’ European District, Stam Europa is a public space bringing a new temporary use in a former office block unoccupied for 15 years. 51N4E architects ( Oscar Broeckhoven, Sebastien Roy) curated conditions for dialogue between the inhabitants and the large institutions of the neighborhood, a vacancy testing a new pilot use in a goal to shake the monolithic program of the neighborhood, providing a wider spectrum of scales and uses.
Our intervention consists of double height separation curtains. Inspired by Venetian theater curtains, the vertical opening movement generates a frieze reminiscent of the rounded cutout of the concrete block wall of the facade.
